Combining forces much like superheroes do

So people have said that integrating biometrics into a program such as US-VISIT won't do any good to prevent terrorism.
Makes sense. There's likely no tell-tale signs when they first get here.
But now in an effort to merge the US's databases into one monster of a tracking system, saying that it won't do a *complete* bit of good might become irrelevant. For example:

The house judiciary committee has passed a bill establishing the crime of aggravated identity theft- the use of stolen identity to commit certain crimes - and setting penalties for it. The Identity Theft Penalty Enhancement Act, H.R. 1731, also seeks stronger punishment for those who abuse a position of trust to commit insider identity theft. The intent of the insider provision is to remind employees that there are consequences for their actions, says Rep. John Carter, R-Texas, the bill's sponsor. The next step for the bill is a vote by the full House.

More statistics, and what those numbers mean

Last month's newsletter featured, among other things (that will also be revealed to the non-subscribers later this week), the results of the 2003 CSI/FBI computer crime survey.
Not surprisingly, computer crime is not going to decrease any time soon. While financial loss was low, it still showed that 56 percent of those surveyed suffered some type of unauthorized computer access.

How will you be voting?

This is one thing that the blog has not yet addressed.
Biometrics in the voting arena. Ever since events in recent US history have made us step back and realize that the archaic punch card system that we use is terribly flawed for this day and age, biometrics have been a consideration when contemplating all the high-tech ways we could vote. Bringing computers into the mix created the existence of 'e-voting', and while that poses its own concerns, the matter of one vote per person is also quite troubling.
While not addressing biometrics in this article, it does discuss the need to work further on e-voting, and create a working solution to preventing any vote tampering.

The voice recognition credit card

Not sure if this is the same card as talked about last time, or a competing prototype. This article contains a lot of information on why there would be companies betting on this technology.
