Smart guns have been one of those things that have had a devoted following since conception. While the idea has been out there for a while, the lack of usage is directly related to the lack of smart guns on the market.
There are smart guns that would use a fingerprint sensor to authorize before use, and then there is this one, still being developed.
The sensors work by recognizing the unique speed and pressure pattern of the gun owner when gripping the gun handle. The sensors are connected to the firing mechanism, so in theory the gun would only fire for the authorized user.
Electronic smart gun under development.
