There are two articles today covering very unconventional biometrics.
The first one comes to me from a reader of the blog:
In England, they are beginning to use ear identification to uncover suspects from a crime scene. Apparently people think about gloves, but forget the earmuffs. The most intriguing thing is - 15% of crime scenes in Britain are found to have ear prints. That's earie. (Get it, eerie? har har)
Ear print database to criminals
The second one is from Japan.
JCB is Japan's largest credit card issuer, and they have come up with a way for people to combine payment authentication and access control with a fingertip blood vessel pattern.
The process is much like a traditional fingerprint scan, but instead of the fingerprint being read, it's the blood vessel pattern that is also unique.
