Here's some news from IBG's latest biometric report.
The industry didn't grow at the rate projected in 2002. Instead, the $927 million expected revenue fell short. Now for 2004, the expected growth is between $719-1200 million, putting the projected number at $1.2 billion.
Looking ahead, 2006 is projected at $2.6 billion, and 2008 at $4.6 billion.
Good news is that the growth of PC and network access as a biometric application is expected to grow in 2004. That means products like VIA Mouse and FreedomPass Pad will be running amok. :-)
Fingerprint technology will still be the largest revenue generator - at 350 million. Face recognition will emerge as the second largest implemented technology by 2008, due in large part to the requirements of the new passport and travel document standards.
